Interstate 90 Crash Update
I-90 Still Closed; Severe Winter Conditions
by Wyoming Highway Patrol
March 28, 2007

(Buffalo) Interstate 90 remains closed at this time from Buffalo to the Montana State line due to severe winter conditions.

The school bus involved in this morning’s crash on Interstate 90 was transporting 39 students from the Tongue River High School in Dayton. There were no reported injuries to students on the school bus. The school bus sustained minor damage.

In addition to the school bus there were two mini-van type vehicles involved in this particular crash. An additional seven tractor trailers, one straight truck and eight passenger vehicles and pickups then became involved in a separate crash at the same location. Troopers are looking for one of the passenger vehicles that left the scene.

That vehicle is described as either a green or gray passenger type vehicle with damage. Troopers believe this vehicle was involved in one of the first crashes that started this chain reaction crash.

Two of the tractor trailer combinations were tanker truck combinations loaded with fuel. One of the trailers in one combination did roll and the second tractor trailer tanker sustained damage to the tank trailer resulting in a spill of diesel fuel estimated at approximately 1,000 gallons.

Injuries occurred to four occupants of passenger vehicles, however their names are unknown at this time. Those injured individuals have been transported to the Johnson County Memorial Hospital in Buffalo. One injury was reported as serious.

At this time, some vehicles remain at the scene as weather conditions are to hazardous to work in the area. All drivers and passengers have been transported from the scene to safe locations.

Troopers report there is still limited visibility, heavy snowfall and blowing snow in the area. The National Weather Service Forecast Office has posted that blizzard conditions are expected. Traveling will be treacherous if not impossible in some areas during this storm. Strong winds across much of the area will create considerable blowing and drifting snow.

Numerous other road closures are in affect in the northern part of the State. From your computer check the WYDOT web site at http://www.wyoroad.info/pls/Browse/WRR.RoadClosures for the latest updated information.
