September is a great month to visit nearby Yellowstone National Park. The tourist traffic has slowed down and fall colors are starting to turn. There is always abundant wildlife and the elk will start gathering their harems and bugeling.

Roads are typically open until early November for the fall season. Then the park closes to get ready for winter, reopening for oversnow traffic on December 19 (date subject to change depending on winter use plan). The winter season lasts until early March.
