Contracts totaling $7 million for 12 highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its December meeting in Cheyenne. Most of the contracts are for maintenance work to extend the life of deteriorating pavement.

Sections of I-25 north of Casper and south of Douglas will get chip seals under a $1.5 million contract awarded to Intermountain Slurry Seal of Salt Lake City. The Casper section extends 22 miles north from the Poplar Street Interchange. The second section covers six miles immediately north of the Converse-Platte county line. The work can begin after June 15, and is expected to be done by Sept. 15.

US 85 from the northern edge of Newcastle to about 10 miles south will get a pavement overlay to address ruts and other pavement deterioration caused by truck traffic. The $1.1 million contract awarded to Northern Improvement of Fargo, N.D., has a completion date of July 31.

About 3.25 miles of US 14 between Shell and Burgess Junction will get a pavement overlay under a $1.1 million contract won by Century Cos. of Lewiston, Mont. The project is designed to address problems with deteriorating pavement that has already been patched. The contract completion date is Aug. 31.

Worland’s McGarvin Moberly Construction was awarded a $693,000 contract for a pavement overlay to address ruts and other deterioration on 3.2 miles of US 30 just northwest of Granger. The work is expected to take one to two weeks to finish and the contract completion date is Oct. 15.

JTL Group of Casper won a $557,000 contract for spot patching on 11.75 miles of WYO 487 just north of the Natrona-Carbon County line about 36 miles south of Casper. The work is expected to be done by Oct. 15.

Casper’s Modern Electric Co. was awarded a $520,000 contract for installing road closure signs with remote controlled flashing beacons at nine locations on I-90 and one on I-25 in Campbell, Johnson and Sheridan counties. The signs will go up on the highway access ramps at the Meade Creek, Prairie Dog Creek, Red Hills, Powder River, Barber Creek, Kingsbury, Wild Horse Creek and Force Road interchanges on I-90, and at the Trabing Road Interchange on I-25. The signs are expected to be up by Oct. 31.

Damaged concrete slabs on a 23-mile section of I-80 west of Rock Springs will be replaced under a $437,000 contract awarded to Forby Contracting of Hinckley, Minn. Most of the work will be in the eastbound lanes. The project also includes some slab replacement on sections of US 30 and US 189 in the Kemmerer area. The work is expected to be done by Aug. 31.

Star Aggregates of Cheyenne won a $334,000 contract for a pavement overlay on Curtis Street (WYO 310) in Laramie between McCue and Pierce streets, including repair of the bridge deck over I-80. The condition of the bridge deck is deteriorating due to heavy truck traffic. The work is expected to begin in May or June and be completed by Aug. 31.
