Winter Storm Watch into Thursday
Up to a foot of new snow possible for western Wyoming
December 19, 2007

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for western and central Wyoming for tonight and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service out of Riverton, Wyoming. The long-range forecast is for periods of snow during the week leading up to a sunny day on Christmas. The weekend looks like it has a slight chance of snow, but not too bad for holiday travelers (plan for typical Wyoming winter road conditions and allow the usual extra time to make your trip.)

There is the potential for a significant snow storm to occur across Western Wyoming tonight as a potent Pacific storm system approaches the area. Snowfall rates of one inch per hour are possible tonight along with the potential for up to a foot of snow over the Tetons as well as across the Wyoming and Salt River ranges tonight. Six inches of snow could fall across the Gros Ventre range and across the northern Jackson and Star Valleys. The southern portion of these valleys may see three inches of snowfall. Togwotee, Teton and Salt River passes are expected to become snow covered and slick tonight.

White Pine Ski area is reporting 20” base with 2” of new snow over the last 24 hours. They have 9 runs open. Five from the Great Spirit Lift, four from the Little Spirit lift. www.whitepineski.com
