Ultra, Shell and Questar: Pleased SEIS process progressing
Statement from companies on release of Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement
by Ultra, Shell and Questar media release
June 27, 2008

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released the Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (FSEIS) for the Pinedale Anticline Project Area (PAPA) today which presents analysis of the proposed alternatives for development of the Pinedale Anticline as well as the BLM’s preferred alternative. We will be reviewing the FSEIS during the 30 day public review period.

We are pleased that the SEIS process is progressing and that we have reached this milestone. We are looking forward to a timely Record of Decision (ROD) that allows implementation of the improved development plan so the communities and the environment can realize the associated benefits.

We are committed to helping our country efficiently and responsibly meet its energy needs, which is why we are investing in a long-term management plan for the Pinedale Anticline that will help us continue to conserve the environment and increase benefits for the local communities.

Our long-term plan includes year-round access in specific areas and we have offered numerous voluntary commitments, including: investment in rig engine emissions technology, installing a Liquids Gathering System (LGS), voluntarily suspending flank leases and/or no surface occupancy of nearly 50,000 acres, using the Wildlife Matrix to identify emerging trends in wildlife populations and appropriate mitigation responses, creating the Mitigation and Monitoring Fund, and conducting annual meetings with the BLM and state agencies to review and agree on annual and long term plans. All of these voluntary commitments will minimize environmental impacts, reduce surface disturbance per well, provide for a stable community, and predictable, efficient resource development.

There is a high level of public interest in the SEIS and this process is important to us as well as the residents of Sublette County, home of the Pinedale Anticline. Ultra, Shell and Questar have been hosting tours of the field and have been meeting with the public throughout this process. We will continue to have an open dialogue and provide information on our proposal to the public.

The review period for the FSEIS will end on July 28th, 2008.
