Wyo. Senators accepting applications for spring internships
November 16, 2008

(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, both R-Wyo., are encouraging college students who are interested in experiencing the work of national government firsthand to pursue a spring internship in their Washington, D.C. offices.

"A Capitol Hill internship is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Interns have the chance to meet remarkable people, gain experience and knowledge in their field of study, observe our nation’s government at work, and experience the energy and excitement of Washington life," said Enzi. "Opportunities abound for students who complete a congressional internship. Nearly half of my D.C. staff members were previously Capitol Hill interns."

"An internship in my Senate office provides Wyoming students with an invaluable opportunity to observe and participate in the workings of the United States Senate," Barrasso said. "I encourage all who are interested to apply."

Interns are responsible for a broad range of duties, some of which include constituent services, Capitol tours and research on various issues. Interns also have the opportunity to attend floor proceedings, committee hearings and lectures given by government leaders.

Enzi’s spring internship program runs from Jan. 5 through May 29. Application materials can be found on Enzi’s Web site at www.enzi.senate.gov. Completed applications are encouraged to be submitted online or faxed to 202-228-0359 by Nov. 21, or if mailed, should be postmarked by Nov. 21. For questions or additional information, contact Enzi’s intern coordinator Cassandra Morton at 202-224-3424 or toll free at 888-250-1879.

Barrasso’s spring internship program runs from Jan. 12 through May 15. Candidates are typically residents of Wyoming, in college, and are 21 years of age or older. Applicants should apply online by Nov. 21. The application can be found on www.barrasso.senate.gov by choosing the "Students" tab on the left and then clicking on "Intern Program." For more information, contact Erin Cochran in Senator Barrasso’s office at 202-224-6441.

Interns in both offices receive a monthly salary and are responsible for their round-trip airfare and living expenses while in D.C. Many colleges also offer school credit for internship programs. For those students who attend the University of Wyoming, 15 credit hours may be earned after successful completion of the university’s requirements. More information is available on the University’s website: http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/pols/Internships.asp.
