Travel advisories, road closures, winter driving conditions, 14 inches new snow at White Pine Ski Area
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
March 26, 2009

Western Wyoming woke up to several inches of new snow on the ground Thursday morning as a quick-hitting early spring storm impacted west and central Wyoming. The system caused roads to be closed and travel advisories to be posted across the state, with eastern Wyoming suffering the brunt of the storm.

Portions of Interstate 80 were closed on Thursday morning on the east side of the state. Sections that were open had treacherous driving conditions with slick roads, blowing snow, and fog creating limited visibility to near white-out conditions in places. South Pass was closed Thursday morning at the time of this report. No Unnecessary Travel warnings were posted for many roads across the state.

Snowfall is expected to continue through Thursday afternoon. Snow will be heavy at times with gusty winds. Lower elevations will get 4 to 8 inches of new snow. Higher elevations will see 10 to 15 inches.

White Pine Ski Resort, located 10 miles from Pinedale, updated their Thursday, March 26 Snow Report around noon reporting 14" new snow, upping their to 74" at the top and 66" at the base.

Travelers can get current road condition reports from the Wyoming Department of Transportation by dialing 5-1-1 in Wyoming. A toll-free number is also available for nation-wide calling: 1-888-996-7623
