Museum Spring Thaw Party
Annual meeting of the Sublette County Historical Society
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
March 5, 2010

The Museum of the Mountain Man and Sublette County Historical Society hosted their annual Spring Thaw Party at the Museum on Thursday, March 4th. There was a standing-room only crowd for the event.

Special guest speaker was Barton Barbour, author of the new book "Jedediah Smith: No Ordinary Mountain Man." (Copies of his book available at the Museum's Trading Post - members get discounts - all purchases go to support the Museum.)

The Museum also debuted four of the rare fur trade papers that were acquired at an auction in New York earlier in the year. The documents were written by William Sublette and William Drummond Stewart to Robert Campbell, prominent figures of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade era.

There was also an announcement about starting a Sublette County of the Wyoming Archaeological Society. About 50 people signed up as interested.

The Museum of the Mountain Man is open during the summer season, May 1st until September 30th. Cost of admission is $5 for adults, $4 senior citizens. $3 for children age 6-12. They are located at 700 E Hennick Street in Pinedale.

Contact them at 307-367-4104, e-mail: director@mmmuseum.com.
