Artist Dwayne Harty in the footsteps of artist Carl Rungius for Y2Y
October 11, 2011

The Museum of the Mountain Man and Sublette County Chamber of Commerce are pleased to host: "Y2Y: The Journey of Wildlife in Art" featuring internationally acclaimed artist, Dwayne Harty following in the footsteps of artist Carl Rungius. The event will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Museum. Cocktails and hors d'eourves at 6:00pm, presentation at 7:00pm.

Dwayne Harty is an internationally acclaimed wildlife artist. In 2007, he began painting the Rocky Mountain corridor in the footsteps of Carl Rungius, from Pinedale to the Yukon. His artistic efforts were commissioned by the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y), the Jackson Hole National Museum of Wildlife Art (NMWA), and the Wythe Museum in Banff, Canada.

The two museums hold the largest collection of original Rungius paintings and honor his life work beginning at the Lozier Ranch, near Pinedale, Wyoming in 1895 and continuing in the Y2Y corridor and Cora area through 1915. Paintings include the areas around New Fork Lake, Fremont Lake, Soda Lake and the Upper Green River.

This summer, the NMWA featured Harty's three years of field work with 30 final pieces hung in an exhibit called "Y2Y: The Journey of Wildlife in Art". That exhibit now travels to Banff, Canada and then on to New York and Washington DC, including original artwork by Charles Russell, Rungius and Albert Bierstadt.

Harty was chosen as the 2011 Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival featured artist. His painting of GTNP's Grizzly #399 and her three cubs received the highest bid at the recent quick draw on Jackson's town square.

Y2Y is a joint Canada-US not-for-profit organization that seeks to preserve and maintain the wildlife, native plants, wilderness and natural processes of the mountainous region from Yellowstone National Park to the Yukon Territory.
