Original post 2/13/12:

The Sublette County Republican Party will conduct a non-binding presidential straw poll, open to all registered Republican voters in the county, immediately prior to convening the precinct caucus meetings at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 16. The caucuses will be held in three separate locations. Those in the Big Piney, Marbleton, and Marbleton North precincts will meet at the Marbleton Town Hall, those in the Bondurant precinct will meet in the Bondurant School Gym, and all others will meet in the Lovett Room of the Sublette County Library in Pinedale.

This poll will help identify the mood and preferences of the county’s Republican voters in this important upcoming presidential primary. "This non-binding straw poll is similar to Missouri’s non-binding straw poll that generated a lot of national press last Tuesday. The results from the straw poll conducted this Thursday will be made public after February 29, when the last precinct caucus takes place in Wyoming," said Walt Bousman, Sublette County Republican Chairman.

Following the straw poll, the groups will hold the precinct caucuses during which Republican precinct representatives and other county Republicans will begin to define the issues that will help to shape the Wyoming Republican Party’s political agenda. This is the first step in a multi-stage process that encourages grass roots participation in Republican Party politics.

The next step, the local county convention, will be held on Saturday, March 10, at 1p.m., at Sublette BOCES (the old elementary school), in Pinedale. Precinct representatives will vote to select a delegate to the Republican National Convention which will be held in Tampa, Florida in August, in addition to choosing delegates and alternates to the State Republican Convention which will be held in Cheyenne in April. The delegate to the National Convention from Sublette County will be one of approximately 29 Wyoming delegates, who will cast a binding vote for the Republican presidential nominee. Precinct representatives will also vote on the county’s platforms and resolutions, the issues that are the local party’s priorities at the state and national level.
