The Lovatt Room of the Pinedale Library was filled Thursday night with precinct representatives and members of the public. Organizers had to bring out extra chairs to seat everyone. Daniel precinctwoman Michelle Pape said this is the biggest turnout she has seen in her 20 years attending the GOP caucuses in Sublette County.

The Sublette County Republican Party held their precinct caucuses on Thursday, February 16th. Caucuses for the nine county precincts were held at three locations: the Pinedale Library, Marbleton Town Hall, and the Bondurant School Gym.

The only presidential representative attending was Josh Romney, son of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who made a campaign appearance at the Pinedale caucus on behalf of his father. Josh Romney owns a ranch in Sweetwater County.

Each of the precincts broke into groups and then held a straw vote of registered Republican voters to see their preference for the four candidates currently in the GOP race: Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum. After the caucus, the results were tabulated and announced. 120 people voted in the straw poll across the county.

Of those voting, THE RESULTS WERE:
55% (66 votes) - Mitt Romney
33% (40 votes) - Rick Santorum
6% (8 votes) - Ron Paul
5% (6 votes) - Newt Gingrich

After the straw poll, each of the precincts took suggestions for topics the people wanted to add as topics of consideration for the County Convention for the GOP platform or new resolutions. Some of the suggestions regarded the legal definition of marriage, a balance budget amendment, local control over education, accountability of federal agencies, voter approval of congressional benefits packages, and term limits,

The Sublette County GOP county convention will be held on Saturday, March 10th in the BOCES room in the old Pinedale Elementary School. At that point, the GOP delegates will select Sublette County's delegate to the National GOP Convention, and also elect several delegates to the Wyoming GOP Convention.

For more information about the local GOP, call Walt Bousman, 307-537-5648.

A proponent was also on hand in the library lobby to take signatures for the 5 to 3 county commissioner petition.

The Sublette County Democratic Party caucus/convention will be held April 14th.
