The Sublette County Republican Party held their annual Ronald Reagan Fundraising Dinner at the Southwest Sublette Pioneers Senior Center on Saturday, March 23rd. Special guest speaker was Liz Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Wyoming Treasurer Mark Gordon also spoke.

Treasurer Gordon was appointed to take the place of Joe Meyer, who passed away in October, 2012, from cancer. Gordon told the audience that Wyoming currently has $16 billion in its portfolio, with $9 billion in the permanent fund. He said when the bottom dropped out of the economy in 2008, Wyoming lost $200 million. Through prudent financial management, then Wyoming Treasurer Joe Meyer was able to regain that loss for the state within one year. He cautioned that a lot of our financial structure and power is being migrated to the east coast.

Keynote speaker, Liz Cheney received standing ovations before and after her speech. She spoke of manufacture crises that are designed to divert attention from the debt crisis and real threats to the nation’s economy and businesses. "The situation is we have the most radical President we’ve ever had in the Oval Office, period," she said. Cheney added that Barack Obama wrote in his autobiography that when he worked briefly in the private sector, he felt like he was ‘a spy behind enemy lines’ and he considered private business as ‘the enemy.’ She said our allies feel they cannot count on us and our enemies are emboldened. She encouraged Republicans to do three things: 1) Don’t sit down and shut up. 2) Don’t be embarrassed for wanting to stop this President from putting his policies in place. 3) Don’t compromise fundamental core beliefs. She ended with reminding the audience of America’s founding principles and she believes the answer is the nation’s sovereignty rests with the people.
