BLM seeks public comments on Boulder Landscape and Transportation Plan

January 18, 2014

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office is seeking public comments on the environmental assessment (EA) for the Boulder Landscape and Transportation Plan (BLTP).

The BLM proposes to renew 16 livestock grazing permits for 18 allotments in the 100,600 acre BLTP area south and east of Boulder, Wyo. The BLM also proposes to develop and implement a travel management plan for the same area; an estimated 320 miles of trails and roads currently intersect it and new ones are regularly being created and used by off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, hunters and hikers.

The BLTP is a priority area because of ongoing Jonah Interagency Office mitigation efforts; its vegetation, wildlife and other data is current; livestock grazing permittees in the area have been working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to initiate ranch plans; the area encompasses important Greater Sage-Grouse, mule deer and pronghorn habitat; and the area includes cultural and historical resources such as the Lander Trail.

The EA is available at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/pfo/landscape_planning/boulder.html. A hard copy of the EA is available if requested by Jan. 24 by calling 307-367-5309.

Public participation is a key component of the EA process. Comments will help the BLM balance commercial, recreational and wildlife needs while providing and managing public access, maintaining existing rights and protecting various resource values. Written substantive comments identifying specific issues, concerns, ideas or mitigation should be emailed to blm_wy_boulder_landscape@blm.gov with "BLTP Comment" in the subject line; faxed to 307-367-5329; or mailed or delivered to the BLM, Attn: Kellie Roadifer, P.O. Box 768, 1625 W. Pine St., Pinedale WY 82941. Comments must be received by Feb. 14.

Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you may ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
