WY State Historical Society meeting to be held in Pinedale Sept. 11 & 12
Historic Pinedale 2015
by Ann Noble
August 4, 2015

The Sublette County Historical Society welcomes all members of the Wyoming State Historical Society to the 62nd Annual Meeting in Pinedale September 11 and 12, 2015. The Sublette County Historical Society is the oldest Historical Society in the State of Wyoming, formed in 1935. The area is the center for the Mountain Man, Fur Trade and Rendezvous era; and to early paleo/archeology dating back 6,000 years. The Lander Wagon Road of the Oregon Trail cuts through the county, and ruts from the trail are still visible today representing our emigrant history, followed by the cowboy, rancher and outfitter. Come see it all!

We will start our socializing on Friday evening with a reception at the Mountain Man Museum in Pinedale. We will then gather again on Saturday for our annual membership meeting, honor our awards winners at the luncheon, and an evening banquet featuring Museum of the Mountain Man curator, Betsy Watry, giving a history of the Sublette County Historical Society and annual Rendezvous, now in its 80th year.

Tours of Sublette County will be offered on Friday starting with a walking tour of historic Pinedale and a visit to the southern part of the county taking in the New Fork Townsite (1888 – 1915), Lander Trail/New Fork River Crossing Park (in consideration for listing on the National Register of Historic Places), and a stop at the Green River Valley Museum in Big Piney. Saturday will feature local experts offering tours of Trappers Point, the Green River Drift (recently listed on the National Register), and a visit to the Sommers Homestead Living History Museum.

Registration fees include the Friday evening Museum reception, Saturday’s Awards luncheon and evening banquet. A cash bar will be available at the banquet. Fees also cover entrance to both museums and the tours. Members are asked to carpool to the sites.

Registration is due September 1, 2015. Please make your lodging accommodations early. The Hampton Inn is offering a special conference rate until August 19th only. Pick up your registration packets, final schedule, and meal tickets on Friday at the Hampton Inn or on Saturday at the Sublette County Library Lovett Room, 155 South Tyler Avenue.

See you in Pinedale! It’s "All The Civilization You Need!" For additional information about the meeting, please contact Ann Noble, 307-360-8894, or ANoble1227@aol.com. To learn more about Pinedale, visit www.VisitPinedale.org. (PDF)
