Wyoming Legislature update – Feb. 8, 2019

Hello Sublette County,
This is Albert Sommers in Cheyenne on Friday the 8th. This morning started with a performance by the Mariachi 307 students from Cheyenne East High School. I continue to be impressed with the talent Wyoming students display.
During 2nd reading today, the House considered and passed 8 bills, including:
• SF 50 – State Amphibian. This bill designates the blotched tiger salamander as the State Amphibian, and this bill was created by students in Fremont County.
• SF 51 – Tobacco tax equivalence
o This bill would ask the state to enter negotiations with the Tribes of the Wind River Reservation to make sure tobacco taxes are equivalent across the state including the reservation.
• SF 73 – Lottery revision
• SF 93 – Grizzly bear hunts. This bill would just authorize the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to create a grizzly bear hunt, if they choose to.
The House Appropriations Committee presented the Senate amendments to the budget after third reading. A conference committee was appointed by both the House and Senate to hammer out our differences in the budget. I was appointed to the conference committee.
As no bills were considered on 2nd reading yesterday, we moved from 2nd reading to General File Bills. We considered and passed 7 bills on General File and managed to finish our work early. Bills considered during committee of the whole included:
• SF 37 – Wyoming Energy authority
• SF 10 – Modification of probation
• SF 63 - LSRA investments
• SF 43 – Hathaway scholarship eligibility
