Who is getting sick?
Data from the Wyoming Department of Health indicates that, in Sublette County, the under age 18 age group has been hit the hardest by catching COVID-19. People age 30-59 are the second largest group contracting the disease. The vulnerable older population age 60+ has seen fewer cases in the county, perhaps a testament to the effectiveness of the lockdowns, people sheltering, and wearing masks. The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Sublette County has been trending downward over the past several weeks since the surge in November. To date, the county has had 590 confirmed cases. Of those, most people who have contracted the disease have recovered.

Data from the Wyoming Department of Health indicates that, in Sublette County, the under-age-18 age group has been hit the hardest by COVID-19. People age 30-59 are the second largest group catching the disease. The vulnerable older population age 60+ has seen fewer cases in the county, perhaps a testament to the effectiveness of the lockdowns, people isolating themselves, and wearing masks.

Wyoming deaths due to COVID-19 are dropping significantly since the surge in October and November. Those dying are typically over age 70 and having underlying health conditions that complicate their conditions, according to data by the Wyoming Department of Health. Five Sublette County residents have reportedly died with the disease. Two of those people were living out-of-state at the time of their deaths, and contracted the disease out-of-state, but their deaths were counted towards the county’s tally because this was their recorded permanent place of residence.

The county and state-wide mask orders are in effect until January 8th. This order requires people to wear face coverings while inside businesses and indoor public places. Indoor gatherings are still limited to 10 or less group sizes.

Sublette County Public Health is now offering free COVID-19 Saliva Testing to all Sublette County residents. COVID-19 saliva testing is completely voluntary. Public Health is conducting drive-thru testing in front of the Pinedale office on Mondays 1pm-4:30pm and at the Marbleton Senior Center on Tuesdays 2pm-4pm by appointment only. Registration opens every Wednesday afternoon for the following week’s testing. Go to the Curative website to register at https://curativetest.com/. Contact Joanie Christie at 307-360-3125 for any questions or assistance with registration.

A new variant of the virus that was detected in the United Kingdom has been confirmed in Colorado in a man in his 20s. He has no travel history. Officials are working to determine where and how he may have been infected. Scientists in the United Kingdom believe the B.1.1.7 variant to be more contagious than previously identified strains of the SARS-CoV-2 variant, though no more severe in symptoms. In addition, the currently approved vaccines are thought to be effective against this variant. Health officials are watching these cases closely.

Primary recommendations from the Wyoming Department of Health
in dealing with the contagious COVID-19 virus are:
• - Follow public health orders.
• - Stay home when sick unless you need medical attention.
• - Maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet from people you don’t live with.
• - Wear cloth face masks when social distancing isn’t practical.
