The number of new COVID-19 cases in Sublette County last week declined by more than half compared to the week prior, to a total 6 cases. Note that at these low numbers, changes of +- under 10 cases are statistically insignificant.

The Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) reported 1 new COVID-19 case in Sublette County on Friday, January 22nd. Sublette County has 6 active cases, with 627 recoveries, and 7 deaths, for a total of 640 cases since the pandemic began.

Wyoming Department of Health reported 21 additional coronavirus-related deaths on Friday, January 22nd, bringing the state’s total to 571.

Beginning on January 26, indoor gatherings that incorporate social distancing and face coverings are permitted for up to 25 percent of capacity or 250 persons, and outdoor gatherings of up to 500 persons. The statewide mask order remains in place through Feb. 14, 2021. The statewide orders are available on the Sublette COVID-19 Response Group website here.

Health officials ask the public to please continue to follow preventative measures to stop the spread of COVID-19: wear a mask, maintain physical distancing, stay home when sick, and practice good hand hygiene.

Sublette County COVID-19 cases significantly declining
For the week of January 14-22 there have been only 9 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Sublette County. As of Friday, January 22nd, there were only 6 active cases in the county. To date, Sublette County has had 640 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases. There have been 5 in-county deaths (2 additional deaths counted towards Sublette County statistics were people living in other states at the time of their deaths). The population of Sublette County in 2019 is reported as 9,880. That amounts to 6% infection rate and a .05% death rate among the general population, and a .7% death rate for people who tested positive for the disease. Or said another way, statistics to date have shown that 99%+ of the people in Sublette County who contracted the disease have recovered from it.

Wyoming COVID-19 cases dropping
According to the Wyoming Department of Health, as of January 23, 2021, Wyoming has had 43,151 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The peak case count was in November. The state population as of 2019 is reported as 578,759. That amounts to approximately 7% of the state’s population contracting the disease. As of January 23rd, there have been 571 reported COVID-19-related deaths in Wyoming (a high number since it includes people who have been living in other states, contracted the disease in other states, and died in other states). That amounts to a mortality of about .1% of the general population, and 1% mortality for the people who contracted the disease. 60% of those deaths were among people age 60 and older, and 43% were over the age of 80. 70% of those elderly victims had underlying health conditions. Children under the age of 19 account for 20% of the positive infection cases, however we could find no record for the death of a child to date in Wyoming due to COVID-19. 99% of the people in Wyoming who contracted the disease have recovered from it, but it has hardest hit the elderly population of the state.
