Obituary - Sharlene Lozier
Funeral Service Saturday, July 24, 2021 in Big Piney
by Covill Funeral Home
July 21, 2021

Sharlene Lozier was born February 7, 1951, in Rock Springs, Wyoming and left this world on July 18, 2021, at her home, in Big Piney, Wyoming. Sharlene was the third child of Calvin Dee and Donna Potter.

Sharlene was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Gary, and two sons, Travis Robert, and Tad Allen. She is survived by two sons, Bryon (Mandi) Lozier, of Big Piney and Monte Dale Lozier of Cheyenne. Grandsons, Gus, Louis, Bowdery, Clay, Steele, Ridge and one granddaughter, Cedar. Sisters Betty Lou (Gene) Pearson, Leona Gay (Jim) Rogers, Joanette (Lonnie) Buck, Jeanette (Ray) Sanborn, and Brother Calvin Dee (Tracy) Potter. Great granddaughter Riverlee, many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In the 1st year of her life, she and her two sisters, Betty Lou and Gay lived with her parents in a sheep camp wagon during the summer months and in Washam, Sweetwater County in the winter months. In the following years they moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming and in 1953 welcomed a brother Calvin and then in 1956 her twin sisters Joanette and Jeanette.

Sharlene’s family has always been very close having been raised by two very loving parents. Her love for music began on road trips where instead of arguments and fighting, Mom and Dad, sang and taught the kids songs to sing as they traveled.

Sharlene loved camping, being outdoors and going fishing. She shared this love with her mom. They would spend many days in the summer up Cotton Wood Creek casting a line.

When Sharlene was younger she loved to visit her grandparents. At Grandma Twitchell’s home she loved to go to her vegetable garden and pick fresh vegetables. At Grandma Potter’s house it was fun to go gather the eggs but there was a mean old Tom turkey that Grandma had to beat off with a broom in order for the kids to get the eggs. There was a large hill behind her house as well, that the kids would drag an old pannier up that hill so they could play house among the rocks.

In the fall of 1965 the Potter family moved to the Miller Ranch in Daniel. Sharlene enjoyed riding horses, haying and at an early age learned how to cook from her mother who was an exceptionally good cook.

Sharlene was always so much fun to be around, she was the one who would dare to go out on the limb and be a little different, especially in her dress. She always cared about her outside appearance, and she was always so attractive both inside and out. Anyone that knew Sharlene enjoyed being around her, she was a special kind of person.

Gary Lozier fell in love with this special lady, Sharlene Potter, and they were married July 12, 1969, in Pinedale, Wyoming.

On October 28, 1970 son, Tad Allen, was born. December 15, 1971, Travis Robert was born but died shortly after birth. On July 20, 1973, Bryon Scott, joined the family and to make the family complete, son Monte Dale was born on December 28, 1976.

Sharlene and Gary made their home in Big Piney, where they raised their 3 boys. They worked for various ranches in Sublette County; the majority of their time was spent working for Gordon Mickelson.

Sharlene loved to take her boys fishing, something she enjoyed even with her grandsons. She also loved helping Gary move and gather cows and always talked about her days on the Green River Drift.

Sharlene loved her boys more than life and she would do anything she could for them, especially making homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. She was so caring that while she was still recovering from a recent surgery and chemo, she sent Gay to the store to buy a Peach pie because she knew Bryon and Gus were coming over later and she knew this would make them happy. When Joanie was home with Sharlene just weeks before her passing they enjoyed making cinnamon rolls together so that the boys would have a treat when they came to visit.

Sharlene knew her time was short and wished just to have her boys close. As soon as both boys were home and she was able to say goodbye, she passed into the next life with open arms to meet her beloved Gary and Tad.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 AM at the Big Piney L.D.S. Church. A viewing will take place one hour prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow the services in the Plainview Cemetery.
