ERAP (Emergency Rental Assistance Program) can assist with unpaid rent and utility payments, as well as paying upcoming rent payments three months at a time. We recommend applying for ERAP and not waiting until the new CDC eviction moratorium ends on Oct. 3. If all the documentation is complete, the typical application takes over 30 days to be reviewed for eligibility, processed and payments to be issued.
Many application delays come from not submitting the correct documentation. We do everything we can to help with the paperwork rather than deny the application, which is happening in other states. We don't want documentation to be a barrier, but we also need to make sure the money is going to the right people. Requiring some documentation is a good way to protect against fraud. If you are unable to provide the required supporting documentation, you can complete and submit the Self-Attestation Form with your application.
We are constantly working to streamline and shorten the approval process. We have built interfaces with other IT systems for federal benefits such as LIEAP, SNAP and TANF to streamline the process and reduce the need for documents. Now, the online application system checks in real-time if the applicant has received these benefits. If they have, then the applicant doesn’t have to submit income documentation. We are currently working on an interface for unemployment insurance (UI) as well.
