Wildfire update – Soda Lake and Shale Creek fires
August 6, 2021

Friday, August 6, 2021, 8:30AM: The Soda Lake Fire is now 100% contained and management is transitioning to local ranger district staff. This fire is burning three miles west of the national forest boundary near South Cottonwood Creek on the Big Piney District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. It was spotted July 27. The closure area has been lifted, although some temporary closures along the South Cottonwood Road will continue to allow resources to continue their efforts to work on the fire. The fire was kept at 97 acres. The 189-acre Shale Creek Fire burning in remote and rugged terrain east of Hams Fork River on the Kemmerer Ranger District is also now 100% contained and the area closure has been lifted. Cause for both fires is unknown. Fire danger is rated Very High and Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect in northwest Wyoming. No campfires permitted except for in developed campgrounds.
