Horse Fire

The Horse Fire was reported on the Big Piney Ranger District on Friday June 13, 2025. It is approximately 60 acres and burning in heavy timber and slash. The lightning-caused fire is located roughly 10-miles west of Merna, 5 miles northeast of McDougal Gap, and 2 miles west of Prospect Peak. Smoke is visible from the McDougal Gap area.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team and 2 Type 1 helicopters have been ordered and should assume command tomorrow evening. A Type 3 helicopter, 8 smoke jumpers and 3 fire engines and 3 crews are on scene.

There are no closures associated with the fire at this time.

Fire danger rating for the Bridger-Teton National Forest is currently rated "Low."
