Near this spot starting in 1867, loggers cut railroad ties in the cold of winter to be floated to Green River City with spring high water. Teasley is the founder of the IPSSSDR sled dog race.

The 2007 Green River Classic Sled Dog Race returned to the Upper Green on Saturday & Sunday, December 29 & 30th.

Teams came from Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota and Washington to compete for the $8,600 purse.

Locals racing included Barrie & Gary Turner, and Casey Boulter, from Pinedale; Kathy MacKay from Daniel; Sharon Moreno from Big Piney; Frank & Stacey Teasely, and Justin Schmidt from Jackson.

There was a 28-mile race for the 12-dog teams and a 14-mile race for the 6-dog teams.

BP generously provided the $8,600 purse money for the 12-Dog and 6-Dog class, as well as the food and the warming tent. Continental Kennel Club provided the $250 purse for the Junior Musher event.

Four people entered in the Junior Musher race this year. Juniors must be 12-years old or younger and still be a rookie racer. This race was a 3-dog maximum dog team, and had a limit of 10 entries. The race was a two mile round trip (one mile up and one mile back on the return). Junior mushers entered were from Lyman, Big Piney and Glenrock, Wyoming, and Minot, North Dakota.

    The day started at -17 degrees and warmed up to around 0. Great for the dogs; a tad chilly for the two-legged participants. Fortunately BP had a wonderful warming tent set up with food, drinks and heaters!
